6) Laurel's Concern @ Northwest Compassionate Communication financials (LAUREL)
I spent some time looking at the NCC financials today, following up on my observation that we had $30,000 of unspecified expenses. My purpose here is to raise some issues and to request some time on the agenda on Tuesday, if my voice is up to it after a day of work.
Looking over these expenses further I could see some of the reasons they are unspecified. I also think that about $8,000 of materials ought to move to the material category rather than being shown as unspecified expenses.
Nevertheless, for an example, I spread all of the unspecified expenses except materials. I spread them to categories that had expenses, which generally turned out to be events. The result is that the major events we held this year -- Marshall, teach for life, family Camp -- would all show about 1/3 less net income if we were to spread all of our expenses across all of our activities/categories. Please see the attached for more details.
7) Review Northwest Compassionate Communication Vision/Mission Statement & Propose any changes in light of '06 and '07 organizational changes. (BARB)
Northwest Compassionate Communication Mission/Vison Statement (from Northwest Compassionate Communication website)
Northwest Compassionate Communication is a regional non-profit association of people who envision a world in which all needs are met compassionately.
Our mission is to contribute to this vision by living and teaching the process of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), which strengthens the ability of people to connect compassionately with themselves and with one another, to share resources, and to resolve conflicts.
Northwest Compassionate Communication offers regional support for The Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC), a global organization whose vision we share.
Northwest Compassionate Communication supports our regional community by making NVC educational materials available, coordinating practice circles, and offering practice sessions and training by regional and CNVC certified trainers.
Northwest Compassionate Communication received its 501 (c)3 non-profit status in March 31, 2005.
BARBARA's proposal: TO PROPOSE TO THE TC TO CHANGE NAME BACK TO "Northwest Compassionate Communication", AND BRING THE RESULTS TO THE OCTOBER 2 CC MEETING, AS A PROPOSAL.
BARBARA WILL PROPOSE TO THE TC THE FOLLOWING CHANGES IN OUR MISSION STATEMENT, AND BRING BACK RESULTS TO THE OCTOBER 22 CC MEETING, AS A PROPOSAL.
BARBARA'S PROPOSAL: TO CHANGE TO FIRST SENTENCE FROM "a regional non-profit association of people" to "a 501-c3 nonprofit corporation offering education and service projects based on the process of Nonviolent Communication (sm), in order to contribute to a world in which all needs are met compassionately."
CHANGE THE FOURTH PARAGRAPH TO: Northwest Compassionate Communication supports our regional community by supporting local CNVC Certified Nonviolent Communication Trainers to offer NVC trainings, to nurture the next generation of trainers, and to organize projects in harmony with our mission.
