PRACTICE GROUPS LOOKING FOR MEMBERS
Practice Groups provide a cost-effective and supportive space for ongoing NVC training to build skills for authentic expression and to engage in empathic connection. The list below is not a comprehensive list of practice groups. However all of the groups listed below are open to new members.
Some groups have requested NVC past experience, as noted in the description. Please note ending dates where they are posted.
If you don't see a group that meets your needs or wish to learn how to START A NEW GROUP see this page for ideas. You can also e-mail Karen @ nwcompass.org for more assistance.
Please know that Northwest Compassionate Communication does not develop, provide or endorse individual practice groups. Practice groups operate with autonomy and with or without a trainer and offer a variety of approaches to the process. We suggest that you ask questions of a group regarding their process in order to best determine how your needs are met.

OTHER / 98033 Eastside Giraffes: Practice groups are places to hone active listening skills and enrich one's ability to see the positive intent or "need" that's underlying what the person wants - and to practice making those guesses verbally for respectful confirmation of understanding and to deepen connection & self-knowledge. It is also a place to speak up for our own needs and receive a kind of listening that is rare in our society, namely empathy. Through practice of these skills, many people have experienced a way to actually transform the judgments that arise with conflict into compassion and mutual understanding…creating peace.
Erika Jennings, the group facilitator, is especially interested in learning from the conflicts that come up within the group as trust is built and is also looking forward to role-plays and empathy sessions for issues dealing with third parties. She has partaken in two 9-mo facilitator training programs focused on parenting and leadership and is about to embark on a third dealing with mediation.

I see NVC as a way for us to "live the change you want to see in the world," and consider it a powerful antidote to the militaristic war-mongering of our current regime. I also see this group focusing on lovingkindness, and having fun -- with lots of laughs as we put the tools of NCV into practice to truly connect with one another. We'll practice enjoying our giraffes, and loving our jackals.
