Date and Time:

   Sun, Aug 13, 2017 - Fri, Aug 18, 2017

August 13 - August 18th

After welcoming 8 families from China to Family Camp last year, we're thrilled to be building a camp that welcomes and supports Chinese families, as well as English-speaking families. All sessions will be fully translated into Mandarin by a team of translators.

What you can expect that will be the same and different from our traditional Family Camp (July 29-August 5):

We are keeping this camp small, intending to facilitate ease of connection among all families and staff.  We are expecting around 30 family participants  from China, who all speak Mandarin, and up to 30 English-speaking family participants from the US, Canada and elsewhere.

We have a robust translation team, and all events will be translated from English to Mandarin, and Mandarin to English.  While this will slow everything down, we expect the exchange to very enriching.

We expect the kitchen will take on more of a Cantonese flavor, with some participants from China already planning on lending a hand with the cooking.

Along with the usual immersion in NVC, we look forward to learning about each other's culture, the different ways we experience the world, even needs and identity. For instance, we've heard that in China, needs are experienced more on the "we" level, as in "our needs", while in the US, needs are experienced more individually, as in "my needs".  And how does that affect our family dynamics, and beyond?

We hope some of you will jump in with us in exploring this very unique, special and rich opportunity to immerse in NVC and make friends with families from China.

  • Unique cultural exchange with families from China
  • Tailored Adult,Youth, Tween and Teen Programs
  • Accomodating a wide range of learning styles and preferences
  • Intergenerational afternoon sessions
  • Family and Couples Mediation support
  • Individual, Couple and Family support sessions
  • Support with creating Family Agreements
  • Family and community play time
  • Delicious, nutritious community meals
  • Relaxation, nature exploration, swimming, and more....

Who is it for?

This camp is for anyone wanting a fun immersion into NVC as a family, and an enriching cultural exchange with families from China.

All our staff are highly trained in NVC. Our Parent Program is staffed with NVC Trainers, offering trainings geared to different levels of NVC experience. We welcome newbies!

Our Children's Program is also staffed with experienced NVC trainers, and while we don't offer NVC "training" to children, they will have a fun camp experience where they will be immersed in the language of compassion, mutual respect, and conflict restoration.  They learn by osmosis.

There is plenty of opportunity for families to learn and play together, as well. All sessions at camp are optional, and you can choose what you want to do when you want to do it. More about that on our camp website:

Cancellations and Refunds:

We understand that life presents choices and that cancellations are an option.  And, on the organizing end, we're making financial commitments: hiring staff, purchasing materials and food based on registration numbers. We designed the following cancellation policy REQUEST to make Family Camp an affordable, fair and sustainable experience for all!

For cancellations before July 15, we will refund whatever you've paid, minus a $75 "fuss and bother" fee.

For cancellations between July 15 and July 31,  we'll refund whatever you've paid, minus a $500, as we've incurred a lot of non-refundable costs by that time.

For cancellations after July 31, we will keep your tuition as a tax-deductible donation to camp, as most of our camp costs have been committed by then based on our registration numbers.  Or, if you find a family to replace yours, that works too.

Of course, these are our requests, and especially in the case of emergencies, we're happy to make exceptions.
